Dental Loupes

What are loupes?
Loupes are glasses or goggles with magnification lenses to allow you to see more without having to get closer - useful when you work in mouths! Each pair is usually made specifically to each clinicians measurements and can have your prescription included too.

Pros

  • Improved vision

  • Improved ergonomics and posture - longterm effect

  • Light can be useful for better illumination and area of focus

  • Can improve standard of work - better vision can give better treatment outcomes and diagnosis

Cons

  • Expensive

  • Can take time to adjust to

  • Area of focus - can’t see rest of patient/ nurse and movement sends area out of focus

Loupes are not an essential to be a dental clinican! Many train without them and think It’s important to be able to do the job without all the extra kit just in case you ever have to be without. That being said, it can massively improve working life and if you can afford to invest in a good pair that will last I would recommend it.
