Occupational Therapy Week
Shir is commencing her second year of an MSc Occupational Therapy (Pre-Registration) course at Oxford Brookes University.
It’s November - which means it’s time to celebrate Occupational Therapy Week! The Royal College of Occupational Therapists in the United Kingdom created Occupational Therapy Week to bring increased awareness to occupational therapy and the work that occupational therapists do every single day.
This year, in 2022, Occupational Therapy Week was celebrated from the 7th to the 13th of November.
As we shared in the previous occupational therapy blog post, occupational therapy is a largely misunderstood and under-utilised healthcare service and profession. As such, through increasing awareness of occupational therapy, Occupational Therapy Week aims to expand enrollment in occupational therapy academic programs, to increase the awareness of the variety and reach of occupational therapy services, and advocate for extended support and access to occupational therapy across the United Kingdom.
This year, the Royal College of Occupational Therapists launched a campaign to raise the profile of occupational therapy, called ‘Lift Up Your Everyday’ (Royal College of Occupational Therapy, 2022). As stated by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists “this campaign is about giving people the knowledge to make changes that will have a positive impact on their lives – it’s always easier with a little help from an expert” (2022).
As part of this campaign, occupational therapists from across the country have taken over social media in order to share a variety of ‘occupational therapy hacks’ which aim to help people make positive changes to their lives, one step at a time.
As such, the occupational therapy team here at Future Frontline wants to take this opportunity to share a variety of ‘hacks’ with you. While in no way are we trying to minimise the complexity of the holistic interventions developed by occupational therapists for those they work with, these hacks are a means of bringing occupational therapy to the lives of those who may not otherwise access or be aware of the services provided by occupational therapists.
See other OT hacks and learn about the role of occupational therapy by searching the hashtag #OTHacks on social media.
